Good news, they’re the same thing and you’re in the right place! 🙂

Rhinoplasty surgery is a cosmetic procedure that is meant to improve the appearance of a patient’s nose.

People opt to get a nose job for a number of reasons:

  • Some people are just unhappy with the wy their nose looks and they turn to plastic surgery for a fix.
  • For other people, Rhinoplasty surgery is a way to repair their nose and restore it to its former appearance following an injury.
  • In either case, it is considered plastic surgery since the main purpose isn’t to improve or save your life, rather the main function is to make you look better.

While there are risks involved with any type of surgery, the risks for Rhinoplasty are generally minimal so long as you have a good doctor and follow their recommendations for postoperative care.

What Is The First Thing To Do If You Are Considering Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Rhinoplasty Plano, Texas

The first thing you should do if you are considering Rhinoplasty is to make sure that this is something you really want to.

Following the surgery, you are going to have a permanent change to your appearance, so it’s in your best interest to ensure that this is really what you want.

Step one in the process for you should be to find the right surgeon for your needs.

This will take some time, but since you are planning on making a permanent change to your nose it really is in your best interest to take your time and make the right choice.

Once you have found a surgeon you are interested in you should contact them to schedule a consultation.

At this point, you are not obligated to use this surgeon, so if you aren’t confident in their abilities and comfortable with them, then you should walk away and choose another doctor.

During your consultation, you should ask your doctor about what the procedure entails, what results you should expect, what the recovery time is, and any other questions you may have.

You should also ask to see any examples of before and after photos that your surgeon has, any reputable surgeon should be more than happy to share these with you.

Talk To Your Insurance Company

When choosing a surgeon you should make sure that their office works with your insurance company since paying cash for this surgery can get very expensive very quickly.

You should also double check with your insurance company to see how much they will pay so that you can plan for the expense of the operation.

By being responsible you can plan out how to cover the cost of your operation and avoid ending up with a bill the surprises you with how much it is.

What Is Involved In The Procedure?

Rhinoplasty surgery is usually done as an outpatient procedure, which means that you will check into the hospital before your surgery, and then be allowed home the same day as long as everything goes according to plan.

If you have complications you will be kept for another day or a few days until the complications can be resolved. One thing you need to do that is very important is to avoid eating before your surgery.

Your surgeon will give you instructions, but generally, you cannot eat for at least 12 hours before your surgery. If you take prescription medication you will be instructed as to whether or not you should take your medication on the day of your procedure.

It’s very important that you have someone who can drive you to your surgery, and that they can stay with you for 24 hours afterward while you recover from the effects of general anesthesia.

After arriving at the hospital for your surgery you will be taken back to a waiting area where a member of the hospital staff will talk with you about your medical history. They will also give you postoperative care instructions. You will then be asked to change into a hospital gown, then given a bed. Before your procedure begins a nurse will start an IV line for you, this will allow your surgical team to administer you Anesthesia, fluids, and any other medications that are needed.

During your surgery, you will be fully sedated and completely unaware of what is happening. Your surgeon will work on your nose and make changes and adjustments to it so that it will have the appearance you are looking for. When the surgery is complete you will be taken to a recovery room while you begin to wake up. After waking up you should expect to be groggy for a while, the pain medication you are given will make you groggy as well. The best way to plan for your Rhinoplasty surgery is to expect that you will be very tired for a few days, and plan to spend a few days resting in bed.

What To Expect Following your Surgery

When you first wake up and start to move around after your surgery you are going to feel groggy.

You need to keep in mind that you aren’t going to look your best after your operation, so if you look in the mirror and are upset, just try to be patient.

Following surgery, you are going to have bruising and swelling, in some cases this can be quite severe.

What’s important to remember is that this is temporary, and once the bruising fades and the swelling subsides you should get a better idea of what your new nose looks like.
